Our writers will create an original "Executive compensation scheme shareholder" essay for you Create order Literature review Nourayi and Daroca (2008), stated that the compensation scheme of the executive level is not have strongly related to firm performance. Found the compensation scheme also has a declining link to the performances of the company. Both this authors suggest that performance of the company is not related to only executive compensation scheme. Lee (2009) state, that the magnitude of the observed pay and performance relationship is too small to provide an effective incentive. In others hand that may look forward for executive compensation measure of performance, the management are trying to increase their incentive, there may induce future profitability (Nourayi.m, Mints.s.m, 2008) [online]. Conversely accounting based measurement about the company past performance (Nourayi.m, Mints.s.m, 2008). Nourayu.M and Mints.S.M (2008) state that the incentive paid using non- cash compensation (stock option grants) should be disclosed a pay performance scheme at executive level. The remuneration package typically includes a fixed component and a variable or incentive payment, which is largely paid as a cash bonus and a long term incentive including share option or other form of shares payment which should be disclosed in the corporate governance section of the company annual report (Lee.J, 2009). Nourayi and Mintz (2008), state that the any compensation scheme discloses to the financial report may lead the management purposely alter the financial report to mislead the shareholder or to influence contractual outcomes that depend on the financial accounting numbers. Nouray and Daroca(2008), state that the CEO compensation in regulated industries are influenced heavily by the accounting profit and operational growth as indicated by the increase in the number employees. Both author are stated that the large corporate, the CEO compensation more depend on the firm performance and paid by cash compensation. In other hand the smaller corporate, characterized by their cash flow problems, the executive compensation will tend to option based compensation. Lee (2009), state that the executive should have their own incentive package for the stewardships role. From the view of the Lee (2009) paid of compensation to encouragement the executive level is to increase corporate value and to retain key management for their performance. Nourayi and Mintz (2008) provide that, the sensitive companys performance is no longer tenure and Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of compensation. Drawing from Nourayi and Daroca (2008) result in research, state that the CEOs of the firm that have bad performance still got a higher compensation. Nourayi and Daroca (2008), has make the empirical research that the growth of the sales or shareholder return are not much related to the executive compensation, but are correlated to the earning, book value and per share dividend. In other hand the companies are using the stock option as compensation scheme; the (CEO) may manipulate the earning of the company to lead the share price increase and get higher return on the increasing share price (Nourayi.M.M, Mintz.S.M, 2008). The executive want to increase the value of the share, that may incurred the fraudulent activity in the company. Research by Nourayi and Daroca (2008) found that compensation holding of stock and option are little supported to deduce the shareholder agency cost and the value of the company. According to Lee (2009), when the executive are paid compensation using stock option may create a conflict of interest between the management and shareholder. These conflicts generally arise from the management motives to pursue their own interest at the expense of the shareholder (Lee.J 2009). Lee is providing that the top executive compensation have a significant positive relationship with the shareholder wealth. Compensation scheme The increase in the compensation scheme may influenced by the increase in sales in company, this increase in rate of compensation may known as the incentive reward to the CEO (Nourayi.M.M, Daroca.F.P, 2008). Sales, assets, and stock price performance, are less likely to be affected by the CEO discretionary choice (Nourayi.M.M, Mintz.S.M 2008). Nourayi.M.M and Daroca.F.P state that the politics may affect the executive compensation. Nourayi.M and Mintz.S.M. (2008) are discussed that when the company are provides others incentives other than the cash compensation measurements, this may lead to inaccuracies of accounting because of the difficulty in discerning the value in monetary term to show in company financial statement. Nourayi and Daroca (2008) state that the company provides the stock option in compensation scheme may incur conflict on the value of the compensation when disclose it. This is because the stock option only incurred the economic costs by the outside investors would pay for invest and does not provide an accounting cost or cash expenditure. Lee (2009) is stated that the compensation for CEO typically includes the base salary, a variable component, and other benefit. The variable component is regarded as performance-related the basis which management performance will be measured not reported in the annual report (Lee.J 2009). The compensation do not disclose to traditional financial statement, the compensation scheme is proposal by the executive themselves. The compensation scheme may direct correlated to the performance of the management. The high compensation may help CEO mange the company better. The good corporate may have committee remunerations to control the total of the compensation claim by the executive level in the company. Conclusion In the conclusion, the executive compensation should be proposal by the independence board of director. The level of the compensation scheme of the CEO do not set by one or close relationship person with the CEO. This will influence by the CEO to get higher compensation but provide the poor performance in company. The total compensation need to disclose to the annual report. To give the shareholder can have decided to continue employed the CEO to help them manage the corporate, to decide the corporation is manage in good status or not. The stock option compensation needs to disclose at the price of the day issues to the executive. Many Americans donââ¬â¢t want to admit it, but segregation is still around. Sometimes by design or by choice. The 21st century segregation exists only in our school systems and communities. Piano Teaching Methods Essay Example For Students
Piano Teaching Methods Essay There is lots of piano teaching method and each one has its strengths andweaknesses. Now, I am going to inform you about the most common three methodsfor children ? Alfred, Suzuki, Amadeus. First of all, the Alfred method usesvisual things such as colored pictures and graphics ? using software, compactdiscs, and /or cassettes is the newest updated one in this method (PianoTeaching Method 1). As you know, a picture is the greatest friend to childrenand it helps them, even adults like us, to understand something a lot easier. Additionally, it could grab childrens attention more easily and quickly thana verbal explanation. For example, you can make a little card to show the scaleor the relationship between notes. It is going to be helpful because studentscan look at it over and over. If you add colors or some pictures to that, italso would be helpful to get students interest. This method gives studentsstrength in reading intervals and seeing the intervalic relationship betweennotes (Piano Teaching Method 1). However, it might cause students toplay by totally relying on position playing instead learning how to readthe notes because it uses the concept of position playing (PianoTeaching Method 1). In other words, students memorize the hand position ?fingering ? but not read the notes. And some people point out that themajor composers should be presented to the students at a much earlier stage thanis typical in this method (Piano Teaching Method 2). This method isrecommended for very beginning teachers who ne ed a certain prepared lesson planto follow and once the teachers become more comfortable and get to know aboutdifferent methods, they are urged to expand from this method (PianoTeaching Method 2). The Suzuki method ? you probably heard this concept alot. This method was applied to teaching violin originally by Dr. ShinichiSuzuki but it now is applied to piano teaching also (Mills et al ed. 1). TheSuzuki method approaches playing piano with listening and development of earand the memory rather than reading music (Mills 114). This method relies onplaying by ear so that students become more sensitive about the tone theyproduce and it makes student concentrate more on their playing, and become moreexpressive with the music (Mills 114; Piano Teaching Method 4). In TheSuzuki Concept, the author indicates that after the good playing habits havebeen established, reading comes a little later (114). However, the studentstrained by this method could lack reading music skill because they depend toomuch on playing by ear (Piano Teaching Method 4). For me, the mostinteresting teaching method is the Amadeus method. The concept of this method isthat the teacher should give a lesson to children by playing with music aschildren play with toys (Back and Lee 25). The author remarks that teaching howto read the notes is not a first step (Back and Lee 25). In The Piano TeachingMethod To Make The Best Student, the author describes that in this method, theteacher should guide children to be familiar with music by their sense ofplaying, and help children to feel and express music through their bodies (25). In this method, the easiest and the most recommended thing for teachers is tohave children sing (Back and Lee 24). By doing that children could learn musicalfactors such as phrasing. Through this method, children can enjoy learning pianomore and become familiar with music gradually and unconsciously (Back and Lee26). I believe that unconscious learning process is the strongest advantage thestudents can get from this method. But as a teacher, you have to be always awareof the lesson plan, otherwise this method might end up just as playing insteadof teaching (Back and Lee 26). Therefore, teachers should always prepare thecurriculum carefully. As I mentioned above, there are strengths and weaknessesin each method. As a piano teacher, you should be knowledgeable about manydifferent methods and use them according to the students needs. You cantjust insist on one particular method because each of your students learningstyle will be different. I believe that the role of a teacher is to find out thebest methodology for his or her students. The Tanabata Festival in Japan and the Tanabata Story
The Tanabata Festival in Japan and the Tanabata Story July 7th (or August 7th in some areas) is the Tanabata, or star festival, in Japan. Tanabata is written with a two kanji characters ä ¸Æ' and Ã¥ ¤â¢. People write their wishes on tanzaku (colorful small strips of papers) and hang them on bamboo trees along with other decorations. The most common tanabata decorations are the streamers that are usually made with variously colored origami. The bamboo branches with colorful decorations are quite pretty and look like a summer Christmas tree. There is even a popular ââ¬â¹childrens song for Tanabata.à Decorations If you are interested in creating Tanabata decorations, the Origami Club site has a collection of decorations that you can make with easy to follow instructions. The Kid Nifty site has some tanzaku papers that can be downloaded for you to write your wishes on. Lets all hope everyones wishes come true this year! Celebrations in Sendai The Sendai Tanabata Festival is considered one of the three major festivals of the Tohoku region, which is visited by over 2 million people every year. Tanabata is generally celebrated as a national event on July 7th, but the Sendai Tanabata Matsuri is held in August, in accordance with the lunar calendar. Similar events are held throughout the nation, but the Sendai Tanabata Festival is the most famous of all. Tanabata Story The Tanabata story was inspired by a famous Chinese legend. It also includes elements of local Japanese beliefs. The Tanabata story is associated with the stars, Altair (the Cowherd Star) and Vega (the Weaver Star). Here is the Tanabata Story and a romaji translation. Also on this site, you can listen to the audio for the story. Basic Solutions for Bad Study Habit
The best way to balance school and friends is to study together. Good friends will support your academic and future goals. You can also make friends with other people who are planning for college and taking the same classes as you. â⬠¢Add interest to your reading assignments. To get through a long reading assignment, imagine yourself in the story. Get involved. Ask yourself, ââ¬Å"What is important to remember about this section? â⬠You should always take notes or underline key sections and discuss the material with others in your class. You can also create a study group and break the assignment into different sections. Each person can be responsible for closely studying one part of the text. The other parts you can skim or outline. Then get together as a group to share what youââ¬â¢ve learned. â⬠¢Cramming before a test. Cramming before a test is always a bad idea. Start studying well in advance. Begin with an hour or two a day and then increase your study time as exams approach. â⬠¢Donââ¬â¢t know where to start. Your challenge is to prioritize. With a big project, list all the things you have to do. Then split the project into small, manageable chunks. Ask, ââ¬Å"Which part is due first? Which part of the assignment is worth more points? Which task will take the most time to complete? â⬠Decide which tasks are most important and what order youââ¬â¢ll use to get things done. Then get started! The most important thing to remember is start early and work a little bit each day. Youââ¬â¢ll be amazed at how much progress you make. â⬠¢Staying up all night to study. Before a test, it is important to get enough sleep. Period. Make time to relax and unwind before each test. Be sure to eat well, sleep well and maybe get some exercise. Youââ¬â¢re more likely to do better on the test if you take care of yourself. â⬠¢Not enough time to study. The trick to solving this problem is getting organized. Bring out all of your notes and textbooks. Identify the most important information and the things you donââ¬â¢t understand. Focus your study time and energy on learning those things. If you need extra help, ask a teacher or tutor. If after school activities are the problem, keep a calendar with game days, meetings, assignments and practice times. Start assignments right when you get them, and use lunch hours and breaks to make extra progress. â⬠¢Trouble remembering things. If you only have trouble sometimes, try connecting new information with your own examples and experiences. Use rhymes, poems or mental pictures to help remember important facts. Some people even make up songs to help them remember things. If you always have trouble remembering, no matter how long or hard you study, talk to your teacher or school counselor. They can talk with you about your specific problems and recommend strategies to help. Basic Solutions for Bad Study Habit The best way to balance school and friends is to study together. The Role of Faith in Night by Elie Wiezel Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The Role of Faith in Night by Elie Wiezel - Essay Example How his faith shifted from one phase to another requires a deep understanding on readerââ¬â¢s path regarding Eliezerââ¬â¢s role in Night. This paper intends to discuss the role of faith in the holocaust story. The story begins with an introduction of a boy who was enthusiastic and devoted to study Talmund and learn Cabbala. He had committed his life to learn the teachings of Cabbala. He would cry in his local temple where he prayed over the obliteration of the Temple in Israel. He had raw but strong faith in God at this point. He would insist his father to arrange a mentor for him to teach him Cabbala and Talmund. When he saw that his father was ever disinterested, he decided to convince a temple assistant, Moshe the Beadle, to help him understand the complicated texts of the Cabbala. His passion toward his learning shows how strong a faith he had in his religion and how much he wanted to learn about God. He wanted to extend his knowledge about his religion. However, since he h ad blind faith without logic, there were huge chances that his faith would change as he grew up. We can get the hint because when Moshe asked him why he prayed, he replied why he breathed, which shows the extent of blind faith he possessed. Soon Elie made some heart-wrenching observations which shook his faith in God. He witnessed a burning death ditch in which thousands of babies were laid and used as target practice by the Nazis. It was such a brutal thing to see that Elie was brought to think the first time in his life why God ever allowed human beings to commit such an evil act. He was so shaken and depressed that he started considering committing suicide before he was told to turn away from the death pit. Elie was unable to forget the shocking scene and this was the first time he started losing faith in God and religion. He was not able to figure out why a just God would ever permit anyone to be so brutal to other innocent human beings. The next event which further weakened Eli ââ¬â¢s faith was the public hanging of the ââ¬Å"pipelâ⬠. When he saw how the little boy was given the deliberate and excruciating death, he also experienced at the same time the death of his faith and beliefs. He considered pipelââ¬â¢s death as divine death as he said that it was not the pipel who was hanged but it was God hanging on the gallows. Up to this point, Elieââ¬â¢s beliefs had abandoned. He had given up his loyalties toward God. His faith had been shattered to pieces and he had no plans to collect those shattered pieces and join them up again. As a token of expression, he stopped praying to God. He did not pray on the holy days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. He announced during the New Year celebrations that he had accused God who was answerable to him. However, this shift in his faith did not satisfy Elie internally. He knew that he was restless and empty from inside, when he should have been feeling satisfied upon accusing the guilty one. Elie was witho ut help and was blank. The rebellion against God strengthened when Elie stopped practicing any religious ritual and did not even fast on the Day of Atonement. He was encouraged by his father who had always been disinterested in Elieââ¬â¢s faith. Elie made sure he ââ¬Å"swallowedâ⬠his meals on the Day of Atonement expressing his rebellion against God and faith. However, faith had still not died entirely. Elie experienced some portion of it coming back to him which forced him to pray twice. Or

The Fatal Jet Ski Ride :: Memoir Essays
The Fatal Jet Ski Ride Walking down the cold, white, hospital hall, my mind was racing a million miles an hour. How could she be dead? Two people in two days...what are the chances? We rounded the corner, my cousin Daniele holding on to me as hard as she could, me gripping her arm to keep myself in pace. There she was, Pam Doan, her body I should say, lying there under that white sheet. Pam, was my cousin's best friend, and mine too, for the fourteen days I'd been there. Two weeks earlier I had arranged for my boyfriend, Charles, to come pick me up and take me back with him to Bridgeport, Nebraska to stay with my Aunt Annie, Uncle Gaylen and my cousins Casey, 18 and Daniele, 15. I arrived there June 23rd, 2002, the day after my 17th birthday. The first few days consisted of Daniele teaching me how to drive her car, seeing how I didn't have one of my own there, and she couldn't drive yet. I had never driven a stick shift before, and it was a pretty comical experience for the both of us. But once I had mastered it, we drove all over that little town. Just Daniele, Pam and I. Pam was 17 also, looking forward to her 18th birthday in November. Our days started routinely. Daniele and I getting up and showering, convincing her dad to take the boat out to the town lakes so we could go tubing and water skiing. Meeting Pam out there and the three of us spending all day in our swimsuits getting tan and sore from riding those damn tubes around the lakes. A few trips here and there into town to my aunt's mexican restaurant to get some food. Then it was back into the shower as we got ready to go out for the night. There were places to go and people to meet. I met my cousin's ex-boyfriend, Aron, and his friend Kyle. Then there was "Perv", whose real name I haven't a clue. At one social gathering, Daniele and I were having a conversation with a couple of guys, one who was Aaron Houston and the other was Stuart Klassen, who will always be known to Daniele and I as "Possum". Then along came the 4th of July weekend that will haunt me forever. My uncle took their family camper out to the lakes and Daniele and I took turns with her brother, Casey, staying out there.

Concerns of Ethics in Management
What is the status of ethics in management? This is a very hard question to address in a three to four page paper because there is no definite answer. As with many society-wide concerns, ethics runs the entire spectrum of behaviors; from Wal-Mart being very customer oriented and a friend of charity to those fly-by-night repair scams that tend to prey on the elderly. When does a business cross the line from making a profit to stealing a profit? That is a hard line to gauge. Laws are designed to make that line a little clearer but laws can't out think the mind of man. If a way can be thought of to make money it already has been or is being thought of. It's where people are taken advantage of that we need to worry. There are many business in place that simply prey on the people who don't know any better. Whether its the feature on Prime-Time that shows elderly people tricked into phony home repairs or the local business that offered a friend of mine a computer at an inflated price with an outrageous financing plan, some business practices are unethical. What I will focus on today is not the clearly right or the clearly wrong but that vast amount of items that are in the middle. Looking at more of a gray area, Wal-Mart is generally viewed as an ethical company but even they have a reputation for unfair competition. Wal-Mart has a marketing plan that targets smaller cities with large-volume discount stores. While this may not appear to be unfair on its face, many people have felt it's negative effect. When Wal-Mart moves into a market, many of it's smaller competitors go out of business. Small business in small towns can't compete with the prices, availability, or selection of a huge conglomerate like Wal-Mart. People in the towns don't have much of a choice. Pay more for less or pay less for more? Not are hard decision. But the ultimate effect is that many small business can't survive the competition. Is that ethically wrong? That is a very hard call to make. I recently had an experience of buying a new car. I shopped around Coos Bay and also in Roseburg while on a recent trip. I was in the market to buy a Dodge Ram. The prices seemed to be about the same in these two markets. My father and I decided to drive to Portland to look further. When we got there, the first dealership that we saw had over thirty Dodge Rams on the front lot with a recent shipment of more in the back. Compared to the Coos Bay dealership which had nine. Immediately, I noticed that the price at that dealership was $1,300 less than the same model with the same package in Coos Bay. Both stickers said the price quoted was the manufacturers suggested retail price. Already over $1,000 to the good, we decided to look further. We found six Rams that had an additional mark down of $2,000. This was because of an engine style in the process of being phased out that had an additional rebate. Looking at the two different models from Portland and Coos Bay we would save $3,300 by buying here. We decided to look no further. We selected the color and bought my truck. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience but what about the people who buy from the Coos Bay dealership and spend over $3,000 more? Are they being unethically taken advantage of? That's a hard call as well. I took an equal opportunity class in High School and during that class someone inevitably brings up car prices in Coos Bay as being unfair. Are these prices unfair or is it just the law of supply and demand? Was the two thousand dollars that I saved in Portland because that model car wasn't available to the dealership in Coos Bay? That difference can be easily excusable. The other $1,300 I have a harder time with. I took detailed notes and both stickers were basically identical with the exception of price. Each indicated a different manufacturers suggested retail price. Ethically, I think the line has been crossed. There can't be two different manufacturers suggested retail prices for the same car. One has to be wrong. I had a good experience buying this car but not everyone will. I've been to the dealerships in the past that have used those high pressure tactics to coerce people into buying or spending more than they can afford. Those are the kind of ethical issues that can't be legislated. Thinking through the ethics issues reminded me of my car buying experience because just like in the ethical issues, there is no clear cut answer. In ethics, one would think that there is right and wrong but in real life cases of ethics in business there is not. There is no black and white answer only millions of shades of gray. Think about junk faxes, what is so wrong about sending an unsolicited advertisement to someone. People get them almost every day in their mailbox. It seems like a reasonable response but the differences are great. The junk fax ties up an important communication tool of the company and the costs are split between the sender and the recipient without the recipient's permission. The cost to the sender is simply the cost of a telephone call. While the cost to the recipient is the cost of paper, ink, and power to receive the call in addition to the loss of use of the machine during reception. I wouldn't want to get junk mail in my mailbox, if I had to pay for it!. I don't like it much even when I don't have to pay for it. But is this practice of junk faxing wrong? I say no. Ethically, I feel that it's not wrong if the faxes are reasonable in length and company has a process to quit sending faxes if a recipient requests. I was the recipient of one junk fax. It came into my mailbox here in Talent at the Anjou Club. It was an advertisement to buy office supplies. Now there is no law, either civil or military, that prohibits this but I realized this isn't something that the Apartment complex should pay for. I took the fax to the manager's office and they drafted a letter to request that it be stopped. They stated that if any more faxes were received, Anjou Club apartment's would no longer do business with this company. This was motivation enough for them not to do it. I never received another fax. With business, that is how the system must work. If the pursuit of the bottom line goes to far, then the bottom line must be threatened. I don't think there is anything ethically wrong with many business practices. It's all a matter of people being satisfied with the product that they are getting. If they are satisfied, the business will flourish. If not, it will suffer. That is probably the best way to measure ethics in management. Overall, I think the status of ethics is management needs some work. There are very good companies out there that charge a fair price to make a reasonable profit but there are many business in place that prey on the weak and poor.

The Fourth Amendment Essay - 942 Words
Article VI The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.â⬠ââ¬âU.S. Constitutional Amendments Preface I choose the fourth amendment for two reasons: - It recognizes a right that, inevitably, cannot be taken away from a person. - It was not written out of spite, but out of experience. I personally feel like this is an issue that, had there not been a provision in the Constitution, would have created some serious issues with the colonists. Carrington One of the most famous cases that influenced the Fourth Amendment was that of Entick v. Carrington. This was only one of many civil cases against officials who raided peopleââ¬â¢s homes and other places in search of materials connected with John Wilkes political pamphlets that attack both the government and the King. Mr. Entick, who was an associate of John Wilkes, sued because agents had entered his house forcefully and broken into desks and boxes that were locked. They then seized pamphlets, charts, and other printed materials. The courts decided the warrant gave the officials the right to search and seizure and the ability to issue a warrant for all a persons papers rather than only those accused of being criminal contrary to the genius of the law of England. The warrant was said to be invalid because it had no probable cause and no record was made of what had been seized. The Supreme Court has said this case is a guide to understanding what the Framers meant when writing the F ourth Amendment. Mtv As The Dominant Music Video Outlet Essays -
Mtv As The Dominant Music Video Outlet Music Television, a basic cable service known by its acronym MTV, remains the dominant music video outlet utilizing effective marketing and competitive business practices throughout its nineteen year history. The creation of the I Want My MTV marketing campaign and use of the campaign throughout the 1980's helped the cable outlet secure a substantial subscriber base. MTV dealt with competition from cable mogul Ted Turner's Cable Music Channel by creating a fighting brand, sister cable service VH-1, along with facing challenges by numerous other music video programming services. Through exclusivity agreements with record labels for music videos and limiting access to cable systems owned by MTV's parent company, MTV exercised anticompetitive and monopolistic means to fend off competition. From its launch, MTV successfully applied these marketing and competitive business practices. The board of the Warner - AMEX Satellite Entertainment Company (WASEC), a partnership between Warner Commu nications and American Express, gave approval in mid-January 1981 for the creation of a cable service that would broadcast music videos . Music videos, song length visual depictions used in the promotion of a musical act's latest release, were already popular on European television since the mid 1970s. A deadline of August 1, 1981 was set for the launch of this new cable service as programs featuring music videos were beginning to appear on cable outlets such as Home Box Office and USA Network. The set-up and programming of the entire operation was to be established in approximately six-and-a-half months. Bob Pittman, a WASEC programming executive with a background in radio, wanted to ensure the new music video outlet delivered programming that appealed to its target audience of twelve to thirty-four-year-olds. This age demographic was both desirable and difficult for advertisers to reach as young adults typically did not watch much of what television offered at the time. He determined that, with little exception, the cable service would have no distinguishable programs. Video upon video would be presented by on-air personalities dubbed video jockeys, veejays for short, who would also provide entertainment news and conduct artist interviews. The absence of scheduled programming was, as stated by Tom McGrath in MTV: The Making of a Revolution, a radical notion as regularly scheduled programs were the norm on American television up to this point. Programming the new music video outlet in this manner made it as familiar as format commercial radio, while presenting it using the medium of television, to its young target audience. The name of the new music video cable service began as TV-1, a name that Bob Pittman felt fit the youthful arrogance the channel embraced. With little support for the name from other WASEC executives, an M representing music replaced the 1 in the name. The name eventually evolved into MTV, Music Television. With a name chosen for the new cable outlet, Fred Seibert, the Director of On-Air Promotion, was charged with commissioning a logo for MTV. Manhattan Design, the studio hired by Seibert, eventually developed the logo still used by the channel today: a large block M with a small TV that looks spray painted on. Many in Sales and Marketing at WASEC thought the logo left much to be desired, with one executive asking Seibert if he thought it would endure as long as the CBS eye. Almost two decades later, the MTV logo is arguably one of the most recognizable pop culture icons. A video of the Buggle's Video Killed the Radio Star marked the launch of MTV at 12:01 AM August 1, 1981. Jack Banks notes in Monopoly Television: MTV's Quest to Control the Music that at the start, the music video channel was available in 2.1 million homes and was not offered in either New York City or Los Angeles. The absence of MTV from cable systems in these two cities presented several problems for the new cable outlet. The amount of available advertising time sold, only thirty percent at the channel's launch, did not seem likely to increase without advertising executives able to see MTV. National media coverage of the new music video channel was also lacking its start-up, with the exception of one reporter from the Los Angeles Times. An effective marketing campaign would

Macbeth1 essays
Macbeth1 essays Many critics hold that the imagery in Macbeth is more rich and dramatic than that of any other of Shakespeares plays. Woven throughout the tragedy, are the recurring images of darkness, blood, and sleep. These images aid in portraying the evilness and the moral disintegration of the murdering tyrant Macbeth and his fiend-like queen. The images of darkness and night symbolize evil in both mankind and Macbeth. Instruments of darkness is referred to as the witches, the witches are consequently darkness and the devil. Shakespeare seems to have made the witches purposely ambiguous. On the other hand, their words and appearance suggest they are evil. However, Shakespeare also uses them to symbolize fate. Darkness is often call upon by Lady Macbeth: Come, thick night, and pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell...(Mac.1.5.48). Lady Macbeth calls on the night to cover her deeds with the thickest smoke of hell, so that heaven would not see the deed and cry out to stop. From the beginning of the second scene until the end of the entire play, Macbeth is a play about blood, symbolic of murder and its consequences. Macbeths encounter with the witness took an evil hold on him. All realization of basic morales such as friendship and family become second to the evil darkness. His first act of blood shed was accomplished Lady Macbeth. She drugged the grooms in the Kings bedchamber, and Macbeth stabs the sleeping Duncan, killing him. Macbeth ordered his friend Banquos death, because of his fear that Banquo had suspicion of his involvement in Duncans murder. The witches prophesy began Macbeths bloody crusade and a second prophesy began the end when, Macbeth encountered an apparition. Be bloody, bold, and resolute! Laugh to scorn the scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth. (Mac.5.1.79) ...
